At the finest level of administrative divisons, it becomes possible to see all the dominions of a state
Here, in year 1000, you can see the Kingdom of the West Franks with all its provinces and dependencies. On the left, under 'West Francia, Kingdom of the West Franks' are listed all the counties - i.e. province level - of this country: Bellême, Bourbonnais, Bourges etc. and all its dependent principalities like Anjou, Aquitaine, Blois etc. In this list, the dependencies - or principalities - are followed by 'belongs to' while the normal counties are simply listed as such. Moreover, the colored square in front of the name has the color of the dependent state surrounded by the color of the sovereign state. In the present case, the county of Champagne is selected.
